SEATTLE – Sun Devil Baseball was unable to find the clutch hit when it needed it, falling to Washington, 4-0, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
Arizona State was not without its chances, stranding 11 base runners over the course of the game. Eder Erives was exceptional in relief, keeping the Devils in the game with 5.2 innings of one-run ball from the mound.
The senior entered the game for starter Spencer Van Scoyoc in the second inning. Erives struck out six and walked none, limiting the Huskies to just three hits. Erives retired the final 11 batters he faced in the game before giving way to Tanner West in the eighth, who also posted a scoreless frame in his one inning of work.
Gage Canning had his team-leading 18th multi-hit game of the year, finishing 2-for-4 on the day while Taylor Lane also added a two-hit effort.
The Sun Devils had their best chance in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases with just one out. But ASU grounded into an inning-ending double play to quell the threat.
UP NEXT: The Sun Devils will take on Seattle U in Seattle on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. before heading home for a three-game Pac-12 series against a Top-25 Arizona team beginning Thursday.
