SEATTLE – Sun Devil Baseball ran into a tough matchup in Washington RHP Noah Brenner on Friday evening, falling to the Huskies, 4-0, in Seattle.
Eli Lingos was solid back in his Friday night role for the Devils, going 5.0 innings with just four hits allowed and three earned runs against. The southpaw was largely effective outside a tough first inning where he didn't get a ton of help from his defense, which allowed a passed ball and an error in the frame.
The Sun Devil bullpen was very efficient in relieving Lingos, with Grant Schneider coming into the game to go 2.0 innings with two hits allowed, no runs and a strikeout. James Ryan closed things out with one hitless and scoreless inning of work and a strikeout.
UW's Brenner held the Devils to just one hit in the complete game effort, with that coming off the bat of Andrew Snow in the fourth inning. ASU put a runner in scoring position in the eighth inning but were unable to capitalize on the moment.
Washington got all the insurance they needed, scoring their first run off a passed ball and adding another on an infield single while one more crossed on an error at the end of the frame.
The Huskies added one more on a sac fly in the fifth but the Sun Devil pitching staff was largely up to task outside of that.
The two teams returned to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Husky Ballpark. The game will be streamed live at pac-12.com/live while fans can tune in on the airwaves at 1060 AM, 100.7 KSLX HD2 and the TuneIn app available at thesundevils.com.
