TEMPE, Ariz. -- Senior catcher Sashel Palacios was named to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Softball Team, highlighting the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Palacios earned the honor due in large part to her success in the classroom. The senior catcher has been a four-year letterwinnner for ASU softball while also working towards a degree in Sociology. Palacios plans to return to ASU to pursue a masters degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education.
Palacios has maintained a 3.34 GPA in her four years at ASU, and has been recognized as a Scholar Baller every season. Palacios was a deans list selection following the fall semesters of both the 2014 and '15 academic years, while also earning the distinction following the 2016 summer term.
The Chula Vista, Calif., native has not only been invested in her studies and team, but has also spent time giving back to her Sun Devil community by volunteering at events such as Fantasy Flight, the Phoenix Children's Hospital, Race for the Cure, White-Wash 'A' Mountain, Coin Wars Adopt-a-Family and numerous youth softball clinics.
Palacios maintained above a .300 batting average every season donning the Sun Devil maroon and gold, and has twice earned All-Pac-12 conference softball selections.
Sashel, and the rest of the Sun Devil softball team, will hit the field again this weekend for a three-game series against the California Golden Bears. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5 p.m Friday evening, with game two slated for a 5 p.m. start on Saturday. The series will conclude Sunday at 3 p.m.
