TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State beach volleyball team (15-14, 3-3 Pac-12) earned their first sweep of a Pac-12 school in program history Saturday afternoon, with a 5-0 victory over the Stanford Cardinal at the PERA Club. The exciting win also came on Senior Night, celebrating four pivotal players for the Sun Devils in Bianca Arellano, Whitney Follette, Cassidy Pickrell and Madison Berridge.
The No. 1 duo of Arellano and Follette finished their regular season careers never giving up, taking a second-set 29-27 victory after winning the first set 21-15. The pair completed play at the PERA Club with the winningest record in program history with a total 43 wins.
Ellyson Lundberg and Katelyn Carballo in the No. 3 spot completed the sweep for the Sun Devils battling back from a first set loss, 18-21, 21-18, 15-13. At No. 4, Mia Rivera and Cassidy Pickrell easily defeated Stanford's Cat Raquel and Shannon Richardson, 21-13, 21-6.
Olumoa Okaro and Madison Berridge as the No. 2 pair also finished the regular season in dominating fashion, 21-13, 22-20.
The No. 5 pair of Natalie Braun and Katie Cross now have a two-game win streak with their 21-19, 21-14 win this afternoon.
The Sun Devils concluded the last weekend of the regular season undefeated, and will be heading into the conference tournament on a five-game win streak.
Up next, the Sun Devils look to continue the momentum heading into the Pac-12 Tournament, hosting by the University of Arizona in Tucson next week. Matches take place Thursday and Friday April 27 and 28 with some matches airing live on the Pac-12 Network.
