Los Angeles -- The fourth-ranked Arizona State water polo team fell to No. 1 USC, 11-4, Saturday afternoon at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
With their highest ranking of the season in hand, and riding a six-game win streak, the Sun Devils entered the weekend contest with a lot of confidence after knocking off California a week ago, but the Sun Devils' success would not carry over into Saturday's meeting against top-ranked USC.
The two powerhouse teams traded blows early, as each team netted a goal in the fifth minute of play, but a late goal by the upset-minded Sun Devils gave ASU a 2-1 lead in the game after the first quarter of play.
Unfortunately for the Sun Devils, the lead would not last as the Ladies of Troy would go on to outscore ASU 3-0 to end the half, sending the teams to the break with USC leading, 4-2.
Following the break, the teams traded blows, with each squad firing in a goal in the third, but a six goal effort by the Trojans in the fourth would hold off any ASU would-be comeback and seal USC's 52nd- straight victory.
In the contest, redshirt junior Mia Rycraw turned in yet another masterful performance with 11 saves. With her effort today, Rycraw has now recorded 163 saves on the season, improving her saves per game average to 9.9 per game.
The Sun Devils will be back in action on Saturday, April 8, when ASU will welcome No. 3 UCLA to the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Saturday's contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. PT.
