COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Triathlon announced its 2016 Elite Triathletes of the Year, as selected by the USA Triathlon Athlete Advisory Council, including Olympic, Paralympic, world, and national champions.
 
As part of the announcement, Arizona State triathlon's Katie Gorczyca has been named Women's U23 Triathlete of the Year.
 
Gorczyca was the individual runner-up at November's USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships, helping lead the team to its first team title in 2016.
 
On an international level, Gorczyca won the Bridgetown CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup in Bridgetown, Barbados and was the top American finisher at the ITU U23 World Championships in Cozumel, Mexico.
 
Last month, Gorczyca and Sun Devil teammate Charlotte Ahrens competed among the world's best at the CAMTRI Elite Women's Sprint Triathlon Championships alongside two Rio Olympians, the current World Junior Champion, and multiple other national team members from the US, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and Belgium.
 
Gorczyca also excels in the classroom, helping the team to a collective team GPA of 3.7 in their first year of competition.
 
The Sun Devil triathlon program recently made multiple exciting announcements including three new signees as well as the acceptance of a bid to host the 2017 USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships in November.
