Stanford, Calif.-- The 23rd- ranked Arizona State softball team brought the bats in Friday's game against Stanford, combining for 12 hits in a, 9-1, win over the Cardinal at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Field.

"This win was huge for us," head coach Trisha Ford said. "When you look around the Pac-12, even this weekend, there have been some surprises. Any game that we can come out and get a win is going to help us down the road. I think for us it is more about continuing to get better game-after-game and continue to work on our process."

Freshman Giselle Juarez made her 11th- start in the circle for the Sun Devils, delivering three strong innings of work before handing the game over to fellow freshman Alyssa Loza who delivered two innings of scoreless softball. Juarez allowed just three hits and one run to the 12 Cardinal batters she faced en route to her fifth win of the season.

The Sun Devil offense got off to another hot start in Friday's win, plating a run in each of the first three innings of play with RBI from Marisa Stankiewicz, Nichole Chilson and Brynley Steele sending the game to the home-half of the third with ASU leading, 3-0.

Stanford would respond in the bottom of the third, when Sorenson ripped an RBI single through the middle of the infield, pulling the score to 3-1 after three innings of play.

ASU would break the game open in the fourth, starting things off with an RBI single from Palacios that extended the Sun Devil lead to 4-1 with no outs. Just three batters later designated player Fa Leilua would rocket her seventh home run of the season, and Sun Devils' fourth grand slam in 2017, and extend the ASU lead to 8-1.

Following a shutdown inning by Loza in the fourth, the Sun Devils would make it an eight-run game with another RBI double for Palcios in the fifth that scored McCarty for her third run of the game.

With the win, the Sun Devils claim the series win against Stanford, marking their first road series victory in 2017. The win also sets up the Sun Devils' second opportunity to wrap a series sweep of a team in conference play this season, with a game three meeting between the two clubs tomorrow at noon.

Game three is scheduled to be televised on the Pac-12 Network with JB Long and Teri Goldberg on the call, as well as a radio stream provided by The Blaze radio network. Fans can stay up to date with the Sun Devil softball program by following @ASUSoftball on Twitter.
