TEMPE, Ariz. – After a historic and momentous 2016-17 season for the Arizona State wrestling team, head coach Zeke Jones announces the signing of Kordell Norfleet to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).
The Chicago native will graduate from Marian Catholic High School this spring before making the trek to Tempe.
Norfleet earned back-to-back state titles in 2016 and 2017, at 170 lbs. and 182 lbs., respectively. The feat proved even more impressive as he not only moved up weight classes, his school moved from 2A to 3A between seasons.
In 2017, he finished an undefeated senior season (43-0) with a 13-3 major decision over previously unbeaten Jack Jessen (Willowbrook).
Outside the state championships, Norfleet also has earned titles at multiple other recent tournaments including the 2016 Grappler Fall Classic, 2016 Minnesota Christmas Tournament, and 2015 Trackwrestling Preseason Championships.
Between his junior and senior seasons, Norfleet earned a 77-1 record.
Norfleet is ranked No. 7 overall at 182 lbs. coming out of high school and has dreams of both winning national championships at Arizona State and becoming an Olympian after college.
He joins Navonte Demison (Bakersfield, Calif.), Brandon Courtney (Goodyear, Ariz.), and Dakota Galt (Beresford, S.D.) as part of the 2017-18 incoming class.
