MIAMI, Fla. – The Arizona State beach volleyball team (7-10, 1-2 Pac-12) opened play at the fifth annual Surf and Turf Invitational, hosted by Florida International University, dropping its three matches Friday afternoon to No. 3 UCLA, No. 18 Tulane University and No. 15 Florida International University.
The Sun Devils could not find a rhythm in its first match of the morning, as UCLA was able to sweep ASU with a 5-0 result. ASU's final duo of the match, Cassidy Pickrell and Katelyn Carballo, were able to make it competitive, but dropped its two sets 21-19 and 21-16, giving UCLA the sweep.

ASU showed promise in its second dual of the day, as the senior duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette was able to top the Tulane Green Wave in three sets. However, Tulane took the remaining four matches, handing the Sun Devils a 4-1 loss, their second of the day.

Arellano and Follette were able to put the Sun Devils ahead again in its final dual of the day by taking the first set with 21-18 and 21-16 decisions. However, ASU was not able to keep the momentum going, as the team dropped its final four sets against the home team, Florida International University.
