HILTON HEAD, S.C. – After 18 holes at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, the No. 4 Arizona State women's golf team is currently in third place, just two strokes behind No. 12 Duke in second place and six strokes out of the top spot (No. 5 Alabama).

"I'm pleased with where we stand after the first day," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "We hung in there until the end, which is a hard task considering how difficult this golf course is. We're looking forward to tomorrow."

Sophia Zeeb shot a 68 (-3) for her career-lowest round by two strokes as well as her first collegiate sub-70 round, helping her to part of a three-way tie for first with Alabama's Kristen Gillman and Cheyenne Knight.

"Sophia played beautifully today and stayed patient until the putts started falling on the backside."

Teammate Linnea Strom is also currently in the top 10, tied for sixth, shooting a one-under-par 70, tied for her third lowest round of the season.

As a team, the Sun Devils shot 288 in round one, four strokes over par.

On Saturday, ASU tees off with Alabama and Duke between 10:10 and 10:50 am ET (8:10-8:50 MT).
