KAPALUA, HAWAI'I – The No. 4 Sun Devils' day one at Hawaii's Anuenue Spring Break Classic was highlighted by two top-five finishes in Monica Vaughn (T2) and Olivia Mehaffey (T4).
"We started a little slow today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "Monica and Olivia had very good rounds but we battled consistent winds of 20-30 mph all day. I'm confident that this team will battle back and manage Kapalua better tomorrow."
Vaughn shot a 71 (-1) while Mehaffey shot a 72 through the first 18 holes of competition. The duo are four and five strokes out of the lead, respectively, behind UCLA's Lilia Vu (67).
As a team, the Sun Devils are currently in fourth place (297/+9), six strokes behind No. 7 UCLA in the top spot (291/+3). Colorado and San Jose State are tied for second (293/+5). ASU is currently just ahead of the nation's top team in No. 1 Stanford (299/+11).
Tuesday will once again have a shotgun start at 7:45 am HST/10:45 am MST with live scoring HERE.
