INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 15 Arizona State men's swim and dive team continued and furthered improvement on day three of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, setting additional school records and earning additional All-American honors. The Sun Devils also moved up to 13th place in team standings.
The Sun Devils had competitors qualify for six of the day's seven events, advancing finalists into four of the six events.
"We really had a good day today and Cameron [Craig] led the way with his All-American honors," said head swim coach Bob Bowman. "He is learning so much from this experience that will help him later in his career."
In the 200 free, Cameron Craig earned a fifth-place overall finish, marking the first First Team All-American honors for Sun Devil men's swim since CJ Nuess in 2008. He became the first between the men's swim/dive teams to earn All-American honors since 2014 (Riley McCormick).
Andrew Porter set not one but two ASU records, in both the prelim and finals of the 100 fly, earning Honorable Mention All-American accolades with an 11th place finish (45.70 prelim/45.59 final).
"Andrew Porter swam two fantastic 100 butterfly's and was crucial in our relay performance tonight. He has been a true inspiration to the team and his competitive spirit is just awesome."
Fellow senior Richard Bohus also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors with a 13th place finish in the 100 back (45.74).
In the 200 medley relay, ASU significantly improved upon their morning prelim time and a 16th place finish with a 12th place finish in the finals, good for another Honorable Mention All-America honor.
Youssef Selim made his NCAA debut in the 3-meter dive, finishing 26th overall in prelims, while David Hoffer competed in his second and final event of the weekend, finishing 32nd.
Selim will compete in the platform dive on Saturday alongside Heikki Makikallio who makes a return trip to NCAA's in the event this season.
