FORT WORTH, Texas – The Arizona State beach volleyball team (7-6, 1-1) split a pair of duals to open play at the 2017 Horned Frog Challenge, Friday afternoon.
NO. 11 ARIZONA STATE 3, TEXAS CHRISTIAN 2
The Sun Devils opened the competition in redemptive fashion defeating host Texas Christian 3-2, one week removed from falling to the Horned Frogs 2-3 at the University of Pepperdine hosted ZUMA Classic.
Arizona State's stellar senior duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette played hero garnering their third-consecutive win and the match deciding point, courtesy of a hard fought three set victory (21-14, 17-21, 16-14).
The Sun Devils' No. 4 pair comprised of Kwyn Johnson and Frances Giedraitis provided the squad much needed momentum and a crucial point heading into the match's second flight, taking a three-set (16-21, 23-21, 15-13) victory.
Cassidy Pickrell and Katelyn Carballo then helped cap the victory with a straight-set (21-13, 21-17) of their own.

Despite a valiant effort the Sun Devils could not withstand a late surge by No. 8 LSU in the final match of the afternoon, falling 3-2.
Arellano and Follette completed the Friday sweep defeating the Horned Frogs in consecutive sets (21-16, 21-17). The pair now boasts a 9-3 record on the season.
Arizona State's No. 2 duo of Madison Berridge and Oluoma Okaro flipped the script on an early morning loss, tallying their team-best tenth win of the season by virtue of a 21-11, 21-15 straight set victory.
