INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 15 Arizona State men's swim and dive teams continued momentum from night one, setting two more school records as well as earning multiple other Honorable Mention All-America honors.
"We had a great day today setting two school records in the 200 free relay and finishing in 14th place for the day," said head swim coach Bob Bowman. "I'm proud of how we raced in finals; the kids showed real toughness."
The Sun Devil 200 free relay squad – Andrew Porter, Patrick Park, Richard Bohus, and Cameron Craig – set a new ASU record in the 200 free relay prelims, re-setting the record once again by winning the evening's consolation finals (ninth overall) of the same event.
ASU earned another top-16 finish in the 400 medley relay prelims (Bohus, Christian Lorenz, Tadas Duskinas, Craig) to advance to the evening's consolation finals, finishing in 11th place in the finals, good for second all-time at Arizona State.
With a pair of top-16 finishes, the Sun Devils racked up two more Honorable Mention All-America accolades after earning the honor in the 800 free relay Wednesday night.
As a team, the Sun Devils are in 14th place (34 points), just six and five points, respectively, behind South Carolina and Michigan in 12th and 13th.
In diving, David Hoffer made his NCAA debut in the 1-meter dive, finishing 27th (300.95). Hoffer will also compete in 3-meter diving Friday, joined by freshman Youssef Selim, who will make his NCAA debut.
"I'm very proud of David," said head diving coach Mark Bradshaw. "He had a significant injury to his knee and hadn't been able to dive much leading up to Zone's and NCAA's. He competed really well, he probably met my highest expectations of what I thought he could do considering everything. He battled, did what I expected him to do, and I'm very proud of him."
Bradshaw continued, "David and Youssef will both be going in the 3-meter tomorrow and for David, that's his better event. For Youssef, it's his first NCAA's as well so we'll see how he responds to the unique challenges of the NCAA meet. I think if they can be consistent, the result will be pretty good so that's what we're shooting for. My hope is we can contribute to the team points over the next two days."
Several Sun Devil swimmers will also make their individual debuts Friday with Craig swimming the 200 free, Lorenz the 100 breast, Porter and Duskinas the 100 fly, and Bohus the 100 back.
Friday morning sessions will be on NCAA.com and indianasportscorp.org/ncaasd while evening championship finals sessions will be streamed on ESPN3.
Live results will be available throughout the championships on NCAA.com.
