TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University senior forward Sophie Brunner was recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), as the organization announced the All-Region nominees for the 2017 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team on Thursday.

Brunner was one of 52 players named to the five All-Region teams from which the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be selected.

Brunner, who earlier this season joined former Sun Devil Emily Westerberg (2004-07) as the only two players in program history to be named All-Pac-12 first team three times, posted another stellar campaign in helping lead the Sun Devils to their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

An honorable mention honoree on the 2016 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team, Brunner started every game this season and led the team in scoring (13.6 ppg/14th in the Pac-12), field goal percentage (51.4/fifth in the Pac-12), rebounds (7.4 rpg/ninth in the Pac-12) and offensive rebounds (3.0 rpg/seventh in the Pac-12), was second in steals (1.2 spg) and 3-point field goal percentage (39.3) and third in free throw percentage (72.0/12th in the Pac-12), free throws made (77) and assists (1.8 apg). She scored in double figures 25 times and grabbed nine or more rebounds 13 times. As was the case throughout her career, Brunner came through with some of her most impressive showings against the nation's best teams as illustrated by her per-game averages of 14.6 points and 7.7 rebounds in the 16 games she played against teams that qualified for the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

A starter in 117 of 128 career games, Brunner, who had 20 points and nine boards in ASU's near upset of third-ranked South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, concluded her Sun Devil career second on ASU's all-time list in career rebounds (921), third in points (1,405) and field goals (551), eighth in field goal percentage (.523) and ninth in free throws (288). Brunner's 177 career steals came 10 steals short of breaking into ASU's all-time top 10.

Off the court Brunner was equally brilliant as she earned Pac-12 All-Academic recognition three times, including second-team honors this season, and earlier this year was in consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors after being named to the CoSIDA All-District 8 Team on Feb. 9.
The 2017 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team will be announced Saturday, April 1 during the WBCA Convention in Dallas.
