NORMAN, Okla. – Sun Devil Senior captain Jared du Toit was named a finalist for the prestigious Byron Nelson Award, in an announcement made by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday afternoon.
"Jared's being named a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award speaks to the type of all-around person and athlete he is," said Arizona State head men's golf coach Matt Thurmond. "He is a great golfer for sure, but he is also an exceptional student and person."
The award which is presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon in conjunction with Four Seasons and Club Las Colinas and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, is presented annually to a graduating senior who has displayed to the selection committee an exemplary entire collegiate academic and golf career as well as displayed good character and integrity while in college. Particular consideration will be given to a nominee's good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the course of his life and golf career. Jared joins an exemplary group of finalists including Clemson's Stephen Behr Jr., Alex Burge and Charlie Danielson of Illinois, Oklahoma State's Jordan Niebrugge and Michigan's Chris O'Neill.
With six top-10 finishes and two individual titles to his credit, du Toit has excelled on the links over the course of the 2016-17 campaign. Currently ranked as the No. 10 World Amateur in the WAGR™, du Toit has represented Canada's top rated amateur for the duration of the season.
Most recently, du Toit notched his second-consecutive top-5 finish, as the Canuck carded a two-day, 54-hole cumulative nine-under, 204 to help pace the Sun Devils to a record shattering 41-under, first-place finish at the Arizona State-hosted Thunderbird Invitational.
