NEW ORLEANS, La. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the National Athletes of the Week for the first outdoor weekend of the season, and Sun Devil redshirt junior Maggie Ewen was named the women's NCAA Division I Athlete of the Week.

The St. Francis, Minnesota-native set a new American collegiate record in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 72.71m (238-6) on Friday, March 17 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational.

The throw broke two-time NCAA champion DeAnna Price's record of 72.66m (238-4) set in April of 2016.

Ewen had just broken the Pac-12 record less than a year ago with a throw of 70.50m (231-3) at the NCAA West Regional in May 2016.

She'll now turn her focus to the overall collegiate record held by former Georgia Bulldog Jenny Dahlgren (72.94m/239-3), which has stood for nearly 10 years.

Ewen and the rest of the Sun Devil track and field team will be in action again this Friday at Sun Angel Stadium for the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Invitational.
