Sun Devil Athletics has relaunched its construction camera to showcase the completion of the north end zone video board. Hunt Construction has begun to frame the board with steel lifted by a crane. The highly-anticipated video board will be operational for the start of the 2017 football season. WATCH: Construction Camera
In October, Arizona State University was approached with a unique opportunity to expand the stadium's activity beyond football season to a 365-day-a-year experience. The redesign process and the opportunity to add unprecedented solarization postponed the third phase of construction, which impacted the east side of the stadium. Currently, Hunt/Sundt is finishing the premium seat areas on the west side of the stadium and the new Student-Athlete Facility in the north end zone.
Sun Devil Stadium is in the middle of a $268M reinvention that features the reconstruction of concourse levels, restroom facilities, concessions, electrical and plumbing upgrades, new club and premium seating, improvements in the lower bowl, modifications to the upper deck, and a new video board and sound system.
Located at the north end of the stadium, the new Student-Athlete Facility will be integrated into the existing stadium structure and will include office and administrative spaces, meeting rooms, support space, study rooms, storage and equipment space, locker rooms, lounge areas, athletic training areas, and conference areas.
The reinvention is self-funded through private donations and new revenue streams and does not use taxpayer or tuition dollars towards the renovation.
Sun Devil Stadium originally was constructed in 1958, has played host to the Super Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, NFL games, and the 2013 Pac-12 Championship. The last major renovation to Sun Devil Stadium came in 1988.
