BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The No. 9/10 Arizona State beach volleyball team (5-2, 1-1 Pac-12) notched its third consecutive win, defeating CSU Bakersfield 5-0, Friday afternoon at Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex.
Garnering five straight set victories, the Sun Devils cruised to a sweep over the host Roadrunners in the first of a four-dual California trip for the team.
Arizona State fielded three first time pairs in the winning effort as the No. 3 (Katie Cross/Katelyn Carballo), No. 4 (Ellyson Lundberg/Cassidy Pickrell), and No. 5 (Mia Rivera/Sage Patchell) pairs represented new look duos for the Sun Devils. The No. 4 and No. 5 pairs allotted the Sun Devils momentum and a two-point advantage heading into the meeting's second flight, earning two-set victories of 21-15, 21-8 and 21-15, 21-17 respectively.
The Sun Devils then capped the victory, with a 3-0 second flight sweep. The Maroon and Gold's No. 2 duo of Oluoma Okaro and Madison Berridge posted their sixth consecutive win courtesy of a two-set, 21-9, 21-13 outing. Arizona State's senior No. 1 pairing of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette earned a 21-17, 21-12 victory, while Katie Cross and Katelyn Carballo slated at the No. 3 spot followed suit with a 21-19, 21-13 win of their own.
Up next, Head coach Brad Keenan's squad will hit the beaches of Malibu, for the University of Pepperdine hosted Zuma Classic, Saturday Mar. 18. The Sun Devils will partake in three duals over the course of tournament, kicking off the event with a meeting with Texas Christian at 10 a.m. PT. The Maroon and Gold will then take on No. 2 Pepperdine at 11 a.m. PT, before rounding out the event with a match with Cal State Los Angeles at 2 p.m. PT.
