Senior Jared du Toit continued his hot play Thursday with a Sun Devil career-best 8-under-64 in the first round of the 26th annual Amer Ari Invitational at the Kings' Course at Waikoloa Beach Resort in Hawaii. It topped his 6-under second-round 65 at the 2016 Alister MaKenzie Invitational.
He shares the first-round lead with Kyle Suppa of USC at the par-72/7,074 yard course.
"Jared had a special round today," said Sun Devil head coach Matt Thurmond. "He went bogey-free and at one point had six straight birdies. Jared just taught me that is called a double turkey. His round kept us in it. In general we just didn't execute as well as we need to but we have some momentum going into tomorrow after a strong last stretch of holes today."
His 8-under started on No. 7, which included birdies from No. 17 through No. 4, it was a bogey-free round from there. He played the par-four holes at 4-under.
