TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State head soccer coach Graham Winkworth announced the addition of Jemma Purfield to the 2017 roster over the weekend.

"I am very excited to bring Jemma into the program here at ASU," Winkworth said. "Jemma played the last two years for me at South Alabama and won just about every accolade there is to win. I am so happy that she felt making the step up into strongest conference in America was the best decision for her development."

Purfield, a Beverly, England, native, has played the last two seasons under Winkwoth at South Alabama where she led the Jaguars in goals (11) during the 2016 season.

A graduate of Cottingham High School, Purfield earned Sports Personality of the Year during her senior season. She excelled on the high school pitch, and earned a spot on both Durham Women FC and Doncaster Rovers Belles' roster, becoming Doncaster's youngest-ever signing.

Purfield also capped at the U-19 level for England and captained the U-17 squad with 27 caps and three goals.

"Jemma is an absolute professional both on and off the pitch," added Winkworth.  "I think there can only be one honor greater than playing for your country and that would be to wear the captain's armband for them. Jemma has done this. I cannot wait to see her play in Sun Devil colors but I am also excited to add her leadership to the program."
With the addition of Purfield, Winkworth wrapped up the signing period for the Sun Devils' 2017 roster, that includes nine newcomers.
