PALOS VERDES, Calif. – After finishing day one tied for sixth, the #14 Sun Devils shot the second lowest round of the day among all teams to move up to fourth place after 36 holes.
"Overall, it was a much better day today and we have now put ourselves in a good position for the final round," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "I'm pleased with our team's mental toughness on this golf course and Linnea played well today. I'm excited for the final round and to make our last day the best."
ASU shot 282 as a team, their third lowest combined round of the season, while Florida jumped to the top spot in the standings shooting a 275. USC is currently in second while Duke is in third. The Devils are also now leading their assigned region, ahead of UNLV (5th), Alabama (7th), Arizona (T10th), and Oklahoma State (T12th).
Linnea Strom led the Sun Devils on day two, moving into the top-10 (T8th) shooting a 69, her second sub-70 round of the season after opening her season at the Annika Intercollegiate last fall by tying her career low (66).
Monica Vaughn also remains in the top-25, currently tied for 21st, after shooting a par-71 in today's second round.
An earlier, shotgun start awaits tournament participants tomorrow with everyone starting at 8:30 am PT on Tuesday. A regional champion will be crowned from each region while an individual and tournament champion will also be crowned following the end of play Tuesday.
