TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil women's basketball senior forward Sophie Brunner was one of five players named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® VIII Team, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

By virtue of being named to the first team, Brunner advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Brunner, who has earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention recognition each of the last two seasons, currently maintains a 3.69 GPA in Education Studies.

On the court, Brunner has been among the top performers in the Pac-12 the last four seasons. A starter in 107 of 118 career games, in 2016 Brunner earned honorable mention recognition on the 2016 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team. ASU's active leader in points (1,260 - ninth on ASU's all-time list), rebounds (861 - second on ASU's all-time list), assists (165) and steals (164), Brunner has started every game this season and currently leads the team in scoring (13.2 ppg), field goal percentage (52.2), rebounds (8.0 rpg) and free throws made (58), is third in steals (1.1 spg) and tied for fourth in assists (1.7 apg).

This is the second straight season Sun Devil WBB has had a player earn CoSIDA first-team All-District VIII honors as current Sun Devil senior center Quinn Dornstauder was named to the team last season.

The Academic All-District® teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
