TEMPE, Ariz. – After an unfortunate rain out in the season opener on Friday, the Sun Devil women's tennis season officially got underway on Sunday afternoon against UC-Davis at Whiteman Tennis Center.

The No. 22 Devils (1-0) swept the Aggies (1-1) with five of the six singles matches ending in straight sets.

"It was certainly nice to get the win," said head coach Sheila McInerney. "I thought we were tentative in the doubles, but that's to be expected in your first match when you're just playing a set. We didn't get to play on Friday, so I thought we didn't play maybe as well as we could have. We won the doubles point fairly quickly though, which was nice. Singles overall was good and we beat people pretty handedly."

Courts two and three in doubles for the Devils got off to a great start early on, with both going up 3-0. However, court one started much differently, with senior Alex Osborne and junior Nicole Fossa-Huergo getting down 2-0.

With the snap of a finger, the duo turned it right around against Kristy Jorgensen and Kelsie Bryant, rolling to six-straight points for a 6-2 victory to clinch the doubles point.

Senior Kassidy Jump and sophomore Sammi Hampton picked up the first doubles win on court three, rolling to a 6-1 win to get ASU started.

No. 36 Kelley Anderson and Savannah Slaysman's match was abandoned, but they held a 5-3 lead over Isabella von Ebbe and Kristina Breisacher.

In singles, courts one through five were controlled by the Devils.

Fossa-Huergo earned the first win, handling Breisacher in the second set for a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

No. 49 Hampton also took care of business for the Devils' third point of the match, defeating Jessie Lee, 6-2, 6-0 on court two.

The fourth and deciding point of the match came from court three, as Anderson looked in control for a majority of the afternoon, winning 6-2, 6-3.

For good measure, Slaysman, No. 63 Jump and O'Sullivan all won their respective matches for the shutout of the Aggies.

The Devils will now prepare for the week ahead, which features a four-team tournament in Lubbock, Texas. The winner of the tournament will earn a bid into the ITA Indoor Team Nationals in two weeks.

ASU will open up the tournament against No. 16 South Carolina on Saturday.
