BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Arizona State men's basketball team split its opening Pac-12 road trip falling to the California Golden Bears, 81-65, in a game that featured 15 lead changes and seven minutes of tied action Sunday night at Haas Pavilion.
Forward Obinna Oleka led the Sun Devil's with 18 points, and tied the team's game-high in rebounds with Shannon Evans II, grabbing six boards.The senior has now scored in double-figures 11 times on the season, including in each of his past six outings.
Senior guard Torian Graham came off the bench in the loss and added 13 points (6-of-13) in 34 minutes of action. Tra Holder added 14 points while dishing out six assists.
The Sun Devils shined in the first half, closing the period shooting 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc. The Maroon and Gold entered the break trailing California 38-37.
Despite their strong first half showing, the Sun Devils struggled to catch their stride offensively down the stretch. The Golden Bears finished the game eight-for-eight from the field and on a 14-2 run to earn the victory.
