Get To Know Assistant Coach Carly WynnGet To Know Assistant Coach Carly Wynn
Sun Devil softball head coach Trisha Ford hired Carly Wynn as an assistant coach as soon as they both stepped on campus this past summer. Wynn joined the Sun Devils after spending four years as the assistant coach at Fresno State University where she helped coach the Bulldogs to back-to-back Mountain West Conference Championships.

We asked coach Wynn a few questions to get to know her just a little bit better, before the start of the 2017 ASU Softball season. Check out her answers below;

Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
My former college coach Lonni Alameda got me to where I ended as a player and where I am now professionally in my career; however, I wouldn't have gotten to any of this without the support of my parents.

What story does your family always tell about you?
They made fun of me because growing up I always signed their cards with my "autograph" so naturally it has continued

What's your favorite TV show and why?
Friends…but The Office is a close second!  Because they're both hilarious and although there's benefits to watching it from start to finish you can really pick up anywhere just to watch an episode.

Name one thing about yourself that most people don't know:
I can play the drums

When I arrived at Arizona State, I had no idea:
Such a close area could house so many golf courses and minor league baseball stadiums

Game/event where you learned the most from?
My freshmen year in High School I was playing for my varsity basketball team, and we were in a pretty competitive league.  We went 0-26…and no that's not a typo.  We worked SO hard…running constantly, playing for a pretty fiery coach.  You figure if you work hard enough, and you truly keep working that you're bound to at least catch SOMEBODY on an off day…when that didn't happen it was the biggest and greatest sport-related life lesson I've learned.  It taught me that not everything ends happily just because it's "supposed to" and although that seems like quite the opposite of uplifting it taught me the reason why you work hard is to get better.  You get better individually to be YOUR best and, in turn, that makes the team better.  The wins are not owed to you, and if you win it's because you were the better team that day…each win after meant a lot more.

If you could live during any time period when/where would it be and why?
Now, I love technology

What is the most important thing that a parent/grandparent taught you?
Compassion

Where is the most interesting vacation spot that you have visited?
Pacific Grove golf course…gorgeous!

What is your favorite road trip destination and why?
The mountains…no one range specifically, just love driving through the winding roads and getting out in a crisp, serene environment

What toppings do you get on your pizza?
Onions are a must and usually some pineapple and pepperoni

How do you like your steak cooked?
Medium rare…don't cook out all the flavor!

My breakfast consists of:
I'm not a big breakfast fan so usually some peanut butter crackers to get it started and a couple hard boiled eggs late morning

Favorite pro athlete you have been around:
Jessica Mendoza.  She embodies what it means to work hard for your success, to challenge social norms, and she is a phenominal person

Most underrated coach you have been around:
Probably Jessica Allister from the University of Minnesota, I don't know if it's fair to say she's underrated, but I think she's even better than a lot of people realize.

Past Sun Devil game/event you wish you would have been there live to see:
Either of the Softball National Championships!

What I knew in college that I still refer to today:
People remember the way you make them FEEL much more than what you say

You have just won the lottery, what is your first purchase?
Toys…boat, jet skis, snowboards…etc.

What is your favorite sport to watch outside of softball?
Football

What do you miss the most about being a college student?
The ability to set your own schedule

Favorite candy?
Mounds

One sentence to describe your family:
My family is at times very spread out, but has done a remarkable job of making sure the underlying message has always been that family is a priority, and we will support one another at all costs.

A place that you have always wanted to visit:
Australia

Most exciting game you have ever been a part of:
I feel like I've been fortunate enough to have a few, but I do remember playing in the pro league and our team was losing 8-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th.  Had the pro league had the run rule in effect we would have lost by that score; however, we went on to score 6 runs in the bottom of the inning and won on a walk-off home run the following inning with the final score being 9-8.  It was crazy to see such swings at a game of that level.
