TEMPE, Ariz. – In a recent release from CollegeSwimming.com, the Arizona State men's and women's teams were rated No. 1 and No. 2 on the Most Improved list, respectively.
ASU and Stanford were the only two teams to feature both men's and women's teams in the top 10 while ASU was the only school to have both teams in the top three.
Each team was compared to rankings and top times from this time last season in three main areas: a team's change in CollegeSwimming power point totals, change in ranking, and whether they've already topped last year's top point total.
The ASU men garnered the most improvement (8.5%), jumping 25 spots in CollegeSwimming rankings, from 40 a year ago to 15 now. On the women's side, the Sun Devils improved 5.4% and 29 spots.
CollegeSwimming notes the most-improved teams were mainly due to three factors: coaching changes, incoming freshmen, and improved performances from upperclassmen.
For the Sun Devils, all three certainly play a role but the addition of Bob Bowman as head coach is certainly key. Bowman has brought in young stars like Chloe Isleta and Cameron Craig and continues to recruit the best, both nationally and internationally.
The Sun Devil women host Oregon State on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 12 noon before the No. 15 men return to the pool for the men and women to host Stanford (Jan. 20) and Cal (Jan. 21).
