LAS VEGAS – ASU alums Kevin Radford and Kelsey Campbell had extremely impressive showings in Las Vegas over the weekend as they each won U.S. Senior National titles, a first for Radford and third for Campbell.
Radford won his first U.S. Senior Nationals title just over a year after starting Greco-Roman wrestling.
"I knew I was going to be in for a battle and I had to choose my attacks," Radford said of his win over Northern Michigan's Khymba Johnson, who had defeated two-time Olympian Ben Provisor earlier in competition.
Campbell, a 2012 Olympian and ASU alum, defeated 2014 University World bronze medalist Jacarra Winchester in the freestyle finals, as Campbell wins her third career U.S. Senior Nationals title. Her first since 2010 comes on the heels of a year where she also competed and won at U.S. Olympic Team Trials in April.
"It always feels good to win. […] It felt good to get my hand raised, but it was a product of a lot of shortcomings recently, so I feel good about it," Campbell said after the victory.
The titles put each in contention to make the world team and proves that they are among the best in the United States.
