TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Hockey finishes their four-game homestand at Oceanside Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday against Colgate University. Puck drop on both night's is set for 7:05 p.m., with standing room only going on sale Friday morning for game one and limited tickets remaining for Saturday.
The two-game series against the Raiders (3-8-4) will be the last hosted in Tempe until Jan. 20-21 when the Devils host Southern New Hampshire.
"It's been great to be at home for a couple of weeks and let our guys get into a routine. We feel that we are making some big strides and the goal is to make all of that translate to the ice against a very well-coached Colgate team."
Coach Powers and the Devils are coming off a split series at home against Rensselaer Poly, with sophomore goaltender Ryland Pashovitz earning his first victory of the season.
Each Sun Devil goalie – Pashovitz, senior Robert Levin and freshman Joey Daccord – has now picked up a victory this season.
Redshirt junior Wade Murphy, freshman Tyler Busch and redshirt junior David Norris highlighted the weekend on the scoresheet, tallying two points apiece. Murphy scored one of the Devils' five goals on Friday against the Engineers, while Busch and Norris each assisted on two goals.
Colgate arrives in warmer winter weather hoping to heat up, as the Raiders are currently on a three-game skid with two within the ECAC Conference.
The Devils and Raiders only have one common opponent this season: Harvard. ASU fell victim to a hungry Crimson program starting their season a month late, while Colgate met them just a week later in a 1-1 tie.
Senior netminder Charlie Finn started that game as he has 11 other times this season, holding a 3-6-3 record with a .907 save percentage and 3.06 goals against average. On the stat sheet, the Raiders are led by sophomore forward Adam Dauda with four goals and seven assists.
For the fifth time this season, ASU will face one of the longest tenured head coaches in college hockey history. Colgate's Don Vaughan enters his 24th season as the bench boss for the Raiders, and holds the record for most wins in program history. During his tenure, he's led the program to six 20-win seasons, 22 ECAC tournament appearances and three NCAA tournament berths.
After the two-game series, the Devils will hit the road once again. For the third time this season, they'll trek to Massachusetts for three games, including one with American International on Tuesday, Dec. 13 and two match-ups with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst on Dec. 16-17.
They will then return to host the 2nd Annual Desert Hockey Classic -- featuring St. Cloud State, UCONN and Brown University -- on Dec. 30-31 at the Prescott Valley Events Center in Prescott Valley, Ariz. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster.com here.
