MANSFIELD/AUSTIN, Texas – After one day at the Art Adamson Invitational, the Sun Devil men's and women's swim teams sit in third and fourth, respectively. On the men's side, the top three includes the three ranked teams in this week's field (LSU in first place, host Texas A&M in second).
Thursday's action brought both morning preliminaries and evening finals, with finals in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 400 medley relay.
Current team points for the men are as follows: LSU (298), Texas A&M (290), ASU (260), TCU (120), Incarnate Word (61), SMU (54) while on the women's side, Texas A&M (417) leads followed by LSU (198), Boise State (190), ASU (145), SMU (80), TCU (49), and Incarnate Word (6).
In the final event of the evening, ASU's 400 medley relay team comprised of Richard Bohus, Christian Lorenz, Andrew Porter, and Cameron Craig took first and set a new ASU record with a time of 3:07.20, half a second faster than the NCAA A-standard time.
Earlier in the night, the Sun Devil A-team (Tadas Duskinas, Bohus, Porter, Craig) finished second in the 200 free relay, just .08 seconds behind the winning team from Texas A&M.
Freshman Bentley Hulshof picked up an impressive win in the 500 free "C" final while Kat Simonovic split 26.9 on her last 50 to finish second in the "A" final of the 500 free. In the men's race, Sidney Kao won the 500 free "B" final while Ben Olszewski finished second overall.
Continuing his impressive freshmen campaign, Craig swam the second fastest 200 IM in Sun Devil history, winning the race with a time of 1:45.24.
In the final individual event of the day, the 50 free, Bohus, Duskinas, and Porter finished 2-3-4 for the Sun Devils.
On Friday, swim will compete in the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 800 free relay. Once again, prelims will start at 8:30 am AZ while finals will begin at 5 pm AZ.
Meanwhile, at the Texas Diving Invitational, in the morning's prelims, David Hoffer and Cody Rankin qualified for the men's 1 mtr finals while Mara Aiacoboae qualified for the women's 3 mtr finals.
In Thursday's finals, Hoffer finished third (372.60) while Rankin finished sixth (326.65) of eight divers. On the women's side, Aiacoboae finished fourth (330.05) among eight women advancing to the finals.
In Austin, Friday brings the women's 1 mtr prelims (10 am AZ) and finals (4 pm AZ) as well as the men's 3 mtr prelims (12:30 pm AZ) and finals (5:30 pm AZ). Like Thursday, Friday's finals will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.
