PRINCEVILLE, HI – Monday's second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational represented moving day for the No. 22 Arizona State men's golf , as the Maroon and Gold catapulted six spots from their first round positioning of 10th to 4th. Collecting the day's second low-round of 10-under 278, the Sun Devils improved to four-under for the tournament and sit 18 shots off the pace.
The Sun Devil conglomerate successfully managed windy conditions at the challenging par-72, 7,223-yard Makai Golf Club, as every member of the five-player rotation tallied a round of par or better.
Continuing to jockey for position atop the leaderboard, senior Jared du Toit posted his second-consecutive round of three-under 69. Carding four birdies to one bogey on the outing, the top Canadian Amateur is poised for yet another top-10 finish, with two already to his credit on the season.
Freshman Alejandro Del Rey Gonzalez excelled in his outing signing off on a four-under 68. The Spaniard nearly managed a bogey-free round with just a single blemish on the par-3 7th, in an effort highlighted by a string of consecutive birdies on holes 14 through 16. Del Rey Gonzalez who will seek to garner the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career in tomorrow's round, sits just outside of the group positioned in a tie for 11th.
Sun Devil newcomer Blake Wagoner closed the round at one-under 71, to improve to two-over for the tournament. The freshman sits in a tie for 37th.
Rounding out the rotation Senior Ki Taek Lee bounced from a tough first round showing with an impressive two-under 70, while junior Tobias Eden notched a steady even-par 72. The Sun Devil veterans both are positioned in tie for 60th heading into tomorrow's round.
The final round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Inviational is slated to commence Tuesday morning, with the Sun Devils set to tee-it-up alongside Mississippi, Missouri, and Sam Houston State in a shotgun start, beginning at 11 a.m. (PT).
