TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Hockey returns home for a two-week home stand that features No. 13 Harvard at Gila River Arena on Friday, Oct. 28 and at Oceanside Ice Arena on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The Crimson (0-0-0) start their season on the road, as the Ivy League programs kick off their season annually in late October. The Devils (1-5-0), however, are beginning to find chemistry six games into the season with their young squad.
"We knew coming in with so many freshmen that we would have a learning curve to start the season," said head coach Greg Powers. "But the talent we have is starting to show and the boys are starting to gel with one another. They know each other's tendencies and they're starting to click.
"Harvard will obviously be fresh having not played any games yet, but we feel we're hitting our stride at this point in the season. They're a historical program with six draft picks on their roster, so we'll have another true test this weekend at home."
Harvard finished as the runner-up in the ECAC Hockey Tournament, falling to eventual NCAA runner-up Quinnipiac in the conference championship game. In the NCAA Tournament, they fell in round one to Frozen Four finalist Boston College, 4-1.
The Crimson graduated seven seniors in 2016, losing two of their top three scorers. However, they returned 34-point producer Alexander Kerfoot, who was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the 5th round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
For the Devils, the top line of redshirt sophomore captain Dylan Hollman, graduate transfer Robbie Baillargeon and redshirt junior Wade Murphy have held the hot hand. Since Baillargeon returned in game one against Air Force, the three have accounted for six goals and six assists over the last three games.
Baillargeon had quite a return to Boston a week ago, tallying three goals in the two games against No. 16 Northeastern. Him and freshman Tyler Busch pace the team with four goals apiece.
This two game series will be the seventh and eighth straight game against a ranked opponent for the Devils, but will not end that streak as ASU hosts No. 11 Michigan next week.
Friday night's game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network at 7 p.m. PT, while game two on Saturday will be streamed live on Twitter via the Pac-12.
Tickets are still available for Friday night in Glendale, while Saturday at Oceanside Ice Arena is sold out.
