BOSTON, Mass. -- Despite going down 4-0 after the first period at Matthews Arena, the Sun Devils rallied in the final 40 minutes to outscore No. 17 Northeastern 2-1 in the first of a two-game series.

Boston University graduate transfer Robbie Baillargeon had quite a homecoming, netting the Devils' (1-4-0) two goals in the second period.

"We won the last 40 minutes and that's what I just told them," said Powers. "However, every guy in there should look in the mirror and feel they could have played better. It's a team loss, period. They went down 4-0 and could have mailed it in but they didn't. We outscored one of the better teams in the country in the final two periods with a few chances that didn't find the back of the net."

The Huskies (2-1-2) put ASU in a hole early, scoring their first goal just 1:46 into the game. As freshman goaltender Joey Daccord reached for the puck, NU's Lincoln Griffin punched it under his outstretched glove for the 1-0 lead.

Less than eight minutes later, the Huskies found a chink in the Devils' penalty kill unit, as Matt Filipe sat wide open between the circles for a one-timer five hole. At the 15 minute mark, Adam Gaudette skated down the right side before firing a wrister shortside up high for what would be the eventual game winner.

Before the end of the 1st, NU capitalized on the power play once more, as Dylan Sikura redirected a shot just between the post and pad of Ryland Pashovitz, who replaced Daccord just minutes before.

Pashovitz would stand tall for the final two periods, allowing just a shorthanded breakaway goal off a turnover in the defensive zone in the second. He would finish the night with 21 saves on 23 shots.

As Powers eluded to, the second and third periods were different stories, as Baillargeon tallied both of his goals in the second period.

Both teams had their opportunities on special teams, as the Devils were 2-for-9 on the power play while the Huskies matched it with two of their own on eight chances.

"They had some goals that could have been prevented by six guys, not just one," said Powers. "We said after the first period that we needed to go win the rest of the game and we did, so we can build off that moving into tomorrow."

Game two will begin at 7 p.m. EST again on Saturday at Matthews Arena. The game can be streamed live at GoNUxstream.com, and you can listen to the Sun Devils radio broadcast on BlazeRadioOnline.com.
