Orlando, Fla. – Fighting for the top spot throughout the three-round tournament, sophomore Linnea Strom finished in the top 10 of the high caliber field at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
Olivia Mehaffey finished in the top half (T27), shooting her best round (71) with four birdies on Monday.
"We had a better day today but still missed a few chances to move up higher on the leaderboard," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "It's hard playing in a field this strong if you have one moderate day. This is just the start of the season and I know this team is capable of great things. They will work hard to be ready for Stanford in two weeks."
The Sun Devils finished ninth as a team, notably finishing ahead of Oklahoma State, who won the overall title two weeks ago at New Mexico's season-opening tournament. ASU also finished ahead of Virginia and Arizona.
USC made a late surge to win the overall team title, shooting 12-under-par on the final day, 24-under across three rounds.
Strom's top-10 individual finish comes on the heels of Monica Vaughn's performance to open the season, tying for third at UNM's Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational two weeks ago.
ASU returns home for the next two weeks to prepare for the Stanford Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif. (Oct. 14-16) before closing the fall season at the Pac-12 Preview the next week (Oct. 24-25) in Kona, Hawai'i.
