NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Former Sun Devil All-American women's tennis player Jacqueline Cako earned a wild card bid to the US Open in doubles after defeating top-seeded Ashley Weinhold and Caitlin Whoriskey, 6-2, 7-5, on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at the Connecticut Tennis Center.
This becomes the second time Cako has won the US Open National Playoffs Doubles Championship, as she did so in 2014 with partner Joel Kielbowicz.
Cako, who is currently ranked No. 230 in women's doubles, has teamed up with Lao, ranked No. 266, several other times this season while on the USTA Pro Circuit. Their most recent victory came at the $25,000 event in February in Surprise, Ariz.
Overall, Cako has won eight USTA Pro Circuit doubles titles in her career, while her partner Lao has captured three.
The US Open National Playoffs are designed to bring the spirit of the US Open to cities and sections across the country, making entry into the US Open eligible to anyone and everyone 14 and over with the passion to compete, regardless of playing ability or nationality.
The doubles' draw will be released the week of Aug. 29.
