CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Arizona State freshman Hudson Keffer placed first in the javelin throw at the USA Junior Championships on Friday night at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.

His best throw of 70.05m (229-10) was the only mark to eclipse the World Junior Championship standard of 68.70m (225-04) and was nearly 24 feet better than the next best throw in the field.

With the first-place finish and qualifying standard, Keffer will advance to the IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland from July 19-24, 2016.

The freshman earned Second-Team All-American honors just two weeks ago for his 14th-place finish at his first-ever NCAA Championship appearance in Eugene, Ore.

During the 2016 season, his best throw of the rookie year -- a 73.08m (239-09) toss at the Duel in the Desert in May -- moved him into second place on the all-time ASU list.
