TEMPE, Ariz. – Nine contests against teams that qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament and nine games televised by Pac-12 Networks highlight the 2016 Arizona State University soccer schedule announced by 10th-year head coach Kevin Boyd on Wednesday.
Below are notes on ASU's 2016 schedule comprised of 19 regular season contests and two exhibition games:
- The Sun Devils will play 11 games at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium (includes exhibition game vs. Beijing Normal University on Sat., Aug., 27) and 10 games away from home (includes exhibition game at San Diego on Fri., Aug. 12). Two of those games will be contested at a neutral site when ASU faces San Francisco (Sept. 9) and Northern Illinois (Sept. 11) at the Cats Classic in Tucson.
- The following ASU games will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks:
- Exhibition game vs. Beijing Normal University (Sat., Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. PT on Pac-12 Arizona).
- Final non-conference game vs. Cal State Fullerton (Fri., Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Arizona).
- Pac-12 opener at UCLA (Thurs., Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network).
- ASU's home contests vs. Utah (Thurs., Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network) and vs. Colorado (Sun., Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network).
- Both of ASU's games on its road trip to Washington – at Washington (Thurs., Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network) and at Washington State (Sun., Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. PT on Pac-12 Washington).
- Last two games of the regular season (both at home) vs. Stanford (Sun., Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network) and vs. Arizona (Fri., Nov., 4 at 3 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network).
- ASU will face nine teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament last year: Arizona (third round), Boston University (second round), Boston College (first round), California (first round), Cal State Fullerton (first round), Stanford (fourth round), USC (third round), Washington (first round) and Washington State (first round).
- Of ASU's 19 regular season opponents, 11 had winning records last season.
- ASU will play no more than two consecutive games away from home at any point during the season. ASU will host four straight games during the non-conference portion of its schedule and will close the season with three straight home games.
- The Sun Devils will open the 2016 season in Massachusetts where they will face Boston University (Fri., Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. ET) in the first meeting between the two schools, and Boston College (Sun., Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. ET).
- ASU's home opener will occur the following week (Fri., Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. PT) when it hosts Loyola University Chicago. One day later (Sat., Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. PT) the Sun Devils will host an exhibition game vs. Beijing Normal University.
- The Sun Devils will remain home the following weekend for the annual Sun Devil Desert Classic when they take on Columbia in the first meeting between the two schools (Fri., Sept. 2 at 4:30 p.m.), and Denver (Sun., Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.). Arizona will also be facing Denver (Fri., Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.) and Columbia (Sun., Sept. 4 at 11 a.m.) the same weekend at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
- ASU will stay in the state for its next two games – vs. San Francisco (Fri., Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m. PT) and vs. NIU in the first meeting between the two schools (Sun., Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. PT) – at the Cats Classic hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson.
- The following weekend ASU will conclude non-conference play vs. Cal State Fullerton (Fri., Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. PT) in the first of four one-game weekends. ASU will also have one-game weekends when it plays at UCLA (Thurs., Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. PT), at home vs. USC (Sat., Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. PT) and at home vs. Arizona (Fri., Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. PT).
- In addition to the aforementioned road trips, ASU will also travel to Oregon for games at Oregon State (Thurs., Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. PT) and at Oregon (Sun., Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. PT).
