TEMPE, Ariz. -- Junior forward Dylan Hollman has officially been named team captain for the 2016-17 season and beyond, announced Arizona State hockey head coach Greg Powers. Joining him as alternate captains for the year will be sophomore Louie Rowe and senior Ryan Belonger.
"Consistently, nobody was more reliable both ways in practice or in the gym than Dylan," said Powers. "Dylan has the ultimate respect of both his teammates and coaches and most importantly, he cares out of the moment as much as he does in the moment."
The Alberta native joined the Sun Devils after leaving a successful hockey program at UMASS Lowell following the 2014-15 season. After suffering an injury in the first exhibition game of the season, he subsequently missed his first collegiate season. Hollman will have three years of eligibility left entering this season which includes his graduate year option.
Prior to his college career, Hollman also played three seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Spruce Grove Saints, where he played with incoming freshman Tyler Busch. During his time with the Saints, Hollman notched 84 points in 167 career games and led the team in goals during the 2013-14 season.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and over 230 pounds, Rowe will take the ice for the Sun Devils for the first time after sitting out his freshman season. Rowe played in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers and put up 51 points in 106 games.
Returning for another season with the Sun Devils, Belonger will be wearing the 'A' while looking to build upon his 2015-16 season. In 34 games played, Belonger ended the year with 8 goals and 13 assists for a total of 21 points.
The Sun Devils open up the 2016-17 campaign with their Maroon vs. Gold game on October 1st and officially begin their regular season on Friday, October 7at Notre Dame.
