TEMPE, Ariz. -- The 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Teams have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Redshirt junior Clayton "CJ" Albertson was the only Arizona State track and field/cross country athlete named to the men's or women's for District VIII.
Albertson, an exercise and wellness major, graduated early in the fall and is now in graduate school pursuing his teaching credential. During the fall, he earned a 4.00 GPA and has a cumulative GPA of 4.00 as well.
In 2014 and 2015, he was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team for the cross country season, as well as earning First Team honors for the 2015 outdoor track and field season.
Most recently, the redshirt junior qualified for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. from June 8-11 where he'll compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. At the Pac-12 Championships, Albertson set the sixth-fastest time in ASU history in the event with a time of 8:45.43.
He also currently holds the eighth-best time in the mile run in school history.
Only first teams were chosen for at-large district recognition, so all honorees will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.
