SEATTLE, Wash. -- By the end of day two at the Pac-12 Outdoor Championships, the Arizona State track and field program had three champions crowned in the men's 4x100 relay, men's 100-meter dash and the women's hammer throw.

Entering the Pac-12 meet, the Sun Devil men's 4x100 relay -- originally compiled of Jamol James, Isaiah Underwood, Brandon Hasson and Reggie Lewis -- had the fastest recorded time in the conference this season. The four just ran the best time in the prelims on Saturday at 39.99 for the new track record and looked to be the favorite heading into Sunday.

Late on Saturday afternoon in the 200-meter dash, James -- the 60-meter dash conference champion and first leg of the relay -- suffered a minor injury therefore metaphorically putting blood in the water for Oregon and USC. Lewis, a graduate transfer from Clemson, rallied the troops and the Devils had no doubt fill-in Ben Trotter, a senior, would step up to the plate.

"It's a brotherhood and all of us see each other every day and we communicate every day," said Lewis. "So when Jamol went down, it threw us off. Today I just had to come in and tell everybody, 'We're just going to execute and do what we came to do.' Before the race, an Oregon guy said in the tent, 'We're going to sweep (the relays),' and that threw gas on my fire. I had to go out there and do it just so they wouldn't sweep."

The Ducks wouldn't sweep, as Lewis, Underwood, Hasson and Trotter blitzed to a first-place finish with the fastest time the relay has ran all season at 39.54 for another new Husky Track record.

"When Jamol went down they were obviously concerned for him, but the first thing Reggie said after that was we're still going to go out and win this relay and still be Pac-12 Champions," said sprinters coach Ronnie Williams. "When we had to make the adjustment, the guys were confident and we knew that Ben would step in and fulfill the role because we had practiced that earlier in the fall. We were very confident because we watched him train everyday and that Ben would step up and do an exceptional job.

"Reggie was an oustanding leader. He came out and understood he had to step up and be great to bring home what our goal was coming in. They knew that if we got (Lewis) the stick, he was going to make it happen. Couldn't be more proud of the job he did on the relay this weekend."

That gas on the fire kept Lewis lit all day, and he may have needed it considering the extent of his Pac-12 weekend. The graduate transfer not only anchored the 4x100 relay, but he also competed in the men's 100- and 200-meter dash for a total of six races in two days.

"This whole weekend I just had to be patient and not try to force too much because the races were coming so fast I barely had time to blink," said Lewis. "Six races in two days, that's a lot on anybody, but I made it through and was happy with what I did."

It would be hard for him not to be happy, as Lewis had to make room in his suitcase for all the hardware he would bring home. After clocking the fastest time in the 100-meter dash prelim on Saturday, he turned around and won the final on Sunday with a time of 10.38 to make himself a part of another track record as well as the first Sun Devil to win the event since Marcus Brunson in 2001. He's also just the third ASU athlete ever in Pac-10/12 history to win the event.

He didn't even have time to make an appearance on the podium, as he turned right around to run in the men's 200-meter dash, missing the back-to-back first place finishes by .04 seconds to Oregon's Devon Allen.

To finish the final day, the other men's relay -- the 4x400 compiled of Herb Polk, Ronny Hall, Cody Moore and Brandon Hasson -- podiumed in third place with a time of 3:09.76.

In the field events, redshirt sophomore Maggie Ewen highlighted the day in the hammer throw, dominating the field with all five of her throws flying further than any of the attempts by the other 15 participants. It became her first Pac-12 Championship with her best mark of 63.88m (209-07). She joins a prestigious list of ASU Pac-10/12 hammer throw victors as just the third-ever winner with 10-time All-American and two-time National Champion Sarah Stevens and ASU record-holder Chelsea Cassulo.

"I'm very proud of Maggie," said throwing coach David Dumble. "She did a phenomenal job this year developing her hammer and as you can see she dominated the field. It was really cold today and the conditions aren't perfect, but she still came out here and did her thing. In warm-ups, she looked like she could be the NCAA champ, and in a few more weeks, maybe we can get that throw to happen at nationals. So it's exciting to see what the potential future is too."

Ewen already competed in the women's shot put on Saturday and placed fourth, just missing the podium. But on Sunday, she would podium more than just her championship, as she earned third place in the women's discus throw with a mark of 55.38m (181-08).

Over in the pit, senior Josh Dixon and redshirt junior Tim White competed in their primary event -- the triple jump -- after placing 4th and 5th, respectively, in the long jump on Saturday. While they didn't finish one right after the other, White made the podium in second place in his first-ever Pac-12 Championship meet with a jump of 15.72m (51-07.00). Dixon finished in 4th.

Also in the triple jump, redshirt junior Keyasia Tibbs podiumed in second place despite a nagging minor injury and anchoring the women's 4x100 relay fourth-place finish in the middle of the event.

By the end of the meet, the Sun Devils picked up one of the two possible Territorial Cup points with the men defeating Arizona for their ninth-straight point. However, the women's streak of 10-straight points came to an end. ASU won five of the six possible points this season in track and field and cross country.

The Devils will prepare for two weeks before traveling to Lawrence, Kansas for NCAA Regionals on May 26-28.
