NEW YORK CITY—Arizona State wrestling's freshman Zahid Valencia will compete as part of one of the four junior matchups between the United States and Iran at the 2016 Beat the Streets event in New York City's Times Square on Thursday, May 19.
As announced by USA Wrestling on Wednesday, Valencia (84 kg/185 pounds) will take on Iran's Mojtaba Golejj, who is the 2015 Junior World Champion and a 2014 bronze medalist at the Asian Junior Championships.
Valencia and the three other wrestlers were champions at their weight class at the UWW Junior Nationals this past April. Valencia went 5-0 at his weight class and also qualified for the World Team Trials, hoping to earn a spot to represent the USA at the Junior World Championships, Aug. 30 to Sept. 4, in Macon, France.
