SAN FRANCISCO -- Freshman Linnea Strom of the Arizona State women's golf team has been named the Pac-12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for April, the Pac-12 announced today.
It becomes the first time the program has had two Golfer of the Month Award's in the same season since the Pac-12 started the honor in 2011. Junior Monica Vaughn earned the award in February.
The Hovas, Sweden native helped the No. 10 Sun Devils to a second place finish at the PING/ASU Invitational at the beginning of the month.
Following that tournament, Strom had a record-breaking performance to claim the Individual title at the Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championship. On the final day, Strom rallied from four strokes behind for a six-under 66 -- her best round of her young collegiate career. She captured the individual title with a birdie on the final hole, which gave her the one stroke advantage over top ranked Bronte Law of UCLA and the new 54-hole tournament record at 11-under 205.
The freshman's victory becomes the first Sun Devil women's golf individual championship -- and 12th overall -- since Carlota Ciganda’s second-consecutive victory in 2010.
Over her last three tournaments, Strom has finished in first, third and second and compiled a total of six top-10 finishes in her first nine collegiate tournaments.
Strom and the No. 10 Sun Devils tee off at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regionals on Thursday, May 5 through Saturday, May 7 at the University Club.
