TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University head women’s soccer coach Kevin Boyd today announced the appointment of Colleen Boyd as assistant coach on the Sun Devil soccer staff.

“Colleen is a great addition to our staff,” said Kevin Boyd. “Her background is goalkeeping but she wants to be a head coach and is really intent on being able to coach the whole field and she’s coming here specifically for that reason. She has great enthusiasm and is an outstanding communicator who is looking forward to helping us make Sun Devil soccer one of the top programs in the country.”

“I am so thankful to the Sun Devil athletic administration, especially head coach Kevin Boyd, for giving me the opportunity to join his staff,” said Colleen Boyd, who played her collegiate career at Oregon State. “I am thrilled to be back in the Pac-12 and coaching at such a prestigious institution in one of the best conferences in the country. I am excited to get to work with this exceptional group of young women and to continue to build upon the established tradition of success.”

Boyd (no relation to Kevin Boyd) comes to ASU from CSUN where she was an assistant coach the last two seasons. Boyd’s primary responsibility was working with the goalkeepers and defense in addition to other administrative duties. Under her tutelage, Matador goalkeepers went from posting two shutouts in 2013 (the season before her arrival) to a combined 15 over the next two seasons. Boyd’s instruction also played a major role in the marked improvement CSUN had in goals-against average going from 1.64 in 2013 to a combined 1.12 in 2014 and 2015. Most importantly, CSUN’s 11 wins in 2015 tied the second-highest win total in program history.

A 2012 graduate of Oregon State, Boyd was a standout goalkeeper for the Beavers. She earned NSCAA All-American honors, All-Pac 12 honors and All-West Region honors during her time in Corvallis. She ended her career with the most shutouts and lowest goals-against-average in program history and was a two-time captain and competed in three NCAA Tournaments.

After graduating from Oregon State, Boyd played two seasons of professional soccer. She played a year with the WPSL Western New York Flash in Buffalo, N.Y., and helped lead the squad to the league championship. Boyd also played a season for the Boston Breakers as part of the NWSL.
