TUSCALOOSA, Ala.—Arizona State gymnastics’ senior Taylor Allex won the NCAA Regional title on vault on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum, and will advance to the NCAA Championships on April 15 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Allex tied her career high on vault for the fifth time this season with a 9.900, beating out host Alabama’s Lauren Beers and Jenna Bresette and West Virginia’s Kirah Koshinski’s respective scores of 9.875. This is the seventh time Allex has either won or tied for first on vault this season, and her 10th score of 9.900 or higher overall this year.
The Becker, Minn., native is ASU’s first NCAA Championships qualifier since Mary Atkinson qualified as an all-arounder in 2010.
Additionally, Allex scored a 9.850 on floor, placing in a tie for sixth with California’s Toni-Ann Williams, WVU’s Koshinski, and Kentucky’s Taylor Puryear and Sidney Dukes.
Also for the Gym Devils, senior Allie Salas finished fifth overall in the all-around with a score of 39.025, marking the fourth time she’s surpassed the 39-point mark this season. Salas scored a 9.675 on vault, a season high 9.800 on bars, a 9.725 on beam, which tied her career high, and a 9.825 on floor.
Alabama won the team competition with a score of 197.125, followed by California’s 195.925. Kentucky’s Alex Hyland won the all-around with a score of 39.175, with Sandra Collantes of Boise State and Sidney Dukes of Kentucky tying for second with a 39.125.
