LOS ANGELES—Arizona State beach volleyball’s No. 1s duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette advanced to the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships Pairs Semifinal match with wins in the opening round and quarterfinals on Thursday at USC’s Merle Norman Stadium.
Playing as the No. 4 seed, Arellano and Follette opened the day with a 21-18, 20-22, 16-14 victory over Cal’s No. 13-seeded Bryce Bark and Kory Lamet, and followed with a win over the No. 5-seeded Sophie Bukovec and Alexa Strange of USC, 21-19, 19-21, 15-11.
Up next, Arellano and Follette will take on the No. 1-seeded Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes of USC on Friday at 10 a.m. PT. The match will air on the Pac-12 Network.
Also for the Sand Devils, the No. 2s duo of Kwyn Johnson and Natalie Braun, playing as the No. 16 seed, dropped their first-round match to USC’s Claes and Hughes, 21-5, 21-6.
The team championships will also commence on Friday, with No. 5 seeded ASU taking on No. 4 seeded California at 3 p.m. PT in the opening round.
