TEMPE -- The NCAA announced the 72 women's golf programs participating in the four regionals via Golf Central on the NBC Golf Channel on Monday afternoon and the Arizona State women's golf earned the 3-seed in the Louisiana Regional hosted by Louisiana State University from May 5-7.
The No. 10 Sun Devils will join 17 other teams in Baton Rouge, La. at The University Club, a 6,285-yard, par-72 course that their website describes as a course that "took advantage of the natural topography keeping in mind the Louisiana Wetlands."
"We are looking forward to competing at the LSU Regional next week and are excited to be the No. 3-ranked seed in a great field," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "This team is really coming into its own and starting to believe that they can play well anywhere."
The field includes No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Florida, No. 13 Washington, No. 20 Oregon and No. 24 South Carolina among the top-25 ranked teams. East Carolina, North Carolina State, Houston, BYU, Augusta, LSU, New Mexico, Denver, Harvard, North Florida, Wichita State and Farleigh Dickinson round out the other 11 teams.
The three-day tournament will determine who qualifies for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., as the low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams (for a total of 24 teams and 12 individuals) will advance. The national championships are held May 20-25 and hosted by the University of Oregon at Eugene Country Club.
