TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University led all schools in the conference with seven selections to the Pac-12 All-Century Baseball Team. 

ASU’s members include catcher Casey Myers (1998-2001), second baseman Dustin Pedroia (2002-04), third baseman Brett Wallace (2006-08), outfielders Barry Bonds (1983-85), Oddibe McDowell (1983-84), and Mike Kelly (1989-91), and right-handed pitcher Mike Leake (2007-09).

The 30-player team was selected by a 36-member blue ribbon panel and unveiled on Pac-12 Networks’ flagship studio show ‘Sports Report.’ USC and UCLA each had six members, followed by Stanford with four, Oregon State and Arizona with two, and Cal, Washington and Washington State at one player apiece.

ASU’s honorees have compiled numerous accolades throughout their baseball careers, including:

Casey Myers | 1998-2001 | Catcher

Two-time Pac-10 Player of the Year (’00, ‘01)…three-time All-American, including two-time first-team honoree in 2000 and 2001…two-time Johnny Bench Award finalist, given to nation’s top catcher…two-time Academic All-American of the Year in 2000 and 2001, and three-time Academic All-American…two-time First-Team All-Pac-10…2000 Collegiate Baseball National Defensive Player of the Year…All-Pac-10 honorable mention…First-Team Freshman All-American…member of Team USA in 2000…ranks among the top 10 in every major offensive statistical category, including the second-most RBI at 275, third-most hits with 313 and fourth-most total bases with 494. 

Dustin Pedroia | 2002-04 | Second Baseman

2004 Golden Spikes Award finalist…2003 Co-Pac-10 Player of the Year…two-time First-Team All-American…2003 Collegiate Baseball National Defensive Player of the Year…First-Team Freshman All-American…three-time First-Team All-Pac-10…two-time member of Team USA in 2002 and 2003…his 298 hits rank as the fourth most in school history and include 71 doubles, third most in ASU annals…led the Boston Red Sox to two World Series Championships, and earned 2008 American League MVP honors…four-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner.

Brett Wallace | 2006-08 | Third Baseman

Two-time Pac-10 Player of the Year (’07, ‘08)…2008 Golden Spikes Award finalist…two-time First-Team All-American…two-time First-Team All-Pac-10…2007 NCBWA District IX Player of the Year…led the Sun Devils to back-to-back Pac-10 Championships and two top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place finish in 2007…All-Pac-10 honorable mention…member of Team USA in 2007…holds the second highest career batting average at ASU at .398…his .687 career slugging percentage ranks as the fourth-highest mark in school history…tallied 45 career home runs, tied for fourth most in school history.   

Barry Bonds | 1983-85 | Outfielder

Second-Team All-American…named a CWS Rosenblatt Legend in 2010…two-time All-College World Series (’83, ’84)…led the Sun Devils back-to-back top-five finishes in the College World Series, including third place in 1983 and fourth in 1984, and a Pac-10 Championship in 1984…two-time All-Pac-10…tallied 45 career home runs, tied for fourth most in school history…his 438 career total bases is the ninth-highest mark at ASU…owns the Major League Baseball record for career home runs (762), home runs in a season (73), and career walks (2,558)…14-time All-Star, 7-time National League MVP, 8-time Gold Glove Award, 12-time Silver Slugger Award.

Oddibe McDowell | 1983-84 | Outfielder

2011 College Baseball Hall of Fame inductee…1984 Golden Spikes Award winner…1984 Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year…1984 Co-Pac-10 Player of the Year… led the Sun Devils back-to-back top-five finishes in the College World Series, including third place in 1983 and fourth in 1984, and a Pac-10 Championship in 1984…two-time First-Team All-American…1984 All-College World Series…two-time First-Team All-Pac-10…member of Team USA in 1984. 

Mike Kelly | 1989-91 | Outfielder

1991 Golden Spikes Award winner…1990 Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, The Sporting News and Bob Smith Award National Player of the Year…three-time All-American, including two-time first-team honoree in 1990 and 1991…only two-time Golden Spikes Award finalist in school history (‘90, ‘91)…1990 Co-Pac-10 Player of the Year…two-time First-Team All-Pac-10…his 46 home runs are the third most in school history.

Mike Leake | 2007-09 | Right-Handed Pitcher

2009 ABCA National Player of the Year…2009 Golden Spikes Award finalist…first ever back-to-back Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year (’08 ’09)…three-time All-American, including 2009 first-team selection…three-time First-Team All-Pac-10…2009 Academic All-American of the Year…First-Team Freshman All-American…member of Team USA in 2008…his 40 career victories are tied for the second most in school history and the most in a three-year career…notched a 162 strikeouts in 1990, third most in a single season in school history…his 2.91 career ERA ranks as the fourth-lowest mark in school history in the aluminum bat era.
