TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State beach volleyball team (11-11) dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 7 Arizona (15-3) in the regular-season finale on Wednesday at the PERA Club.
At No. 1, the junior duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette posted a win over the previously undefeated Arizona pair of McKenna Witt and Madison Witt, bouncing back from a first-set loss in the 12-21, 22-20, 15-12 win. Last week in Tucson, Arellano and Follette also battled Witt and Witt in three sets.
For the second straight match, the No. 4s duo of Bethany Wedepohl and Jourdan Parnell defeated Arizona’s Mia Mason and Kalei Mau in straight sets, 21-16, 21-17.
With the loss, Arizona sweeps the Territorial Cup Series ® point for beach volleyball. The Sun Devils currently hold a 9.5 to 6.5 edge over Arizona, needing one more point to clinch the 2015-16 series win.
Up next, the Sand Devils travel to Los Angeles for the 2016 Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships, April 28 to May 1, hosted by USC at Merle Norman Stadium.
