PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Through the first day of the three-round Pac-12 Championships, the Arizona State women's golf team currently sits in third place at three-under par. The No. 10 Sun Devils also remain one stroke ahead of No. 11 Arizona in the hunt for the Territorial Cup point this week.

Junior Monica Vaughn -- ranked No. 6 by Golfstat.com -- is in fourth place individually after putting together a three-under, 69 at the par-72, 6,458-yard Ruby Hill Golf Club.

"I am pleased with my teams' effort today," said head coach Missy Farr-Kaye. "This is a great field and we are in the hunt. I look forward to the next two days and am confident that we will compete hard."

The Devils have three players in the top 25, as freshman Linnea Strom sits in a tie for 16th at one-under par and sophomore Roberta Liti, who continued her recent success with an even-par 72, is tied for 22nd.

Vaughn -- who won the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge against several of the top golfers in the Pac-12 Conference earlier this year -- tallied five birdies on the day and just two bogeys. Both bogeys came on two of the four par-5's.

"Mo played very solid golf today," said Farr-Kaye. "I feel when she gets the par 5's on track tomorrow, she can go low."

Playing as the No. 2 in the Devils line-up, Strom put together a terrific opening round to her first conference championship, totaling four birdies. She would have finished with a remarkable four-under par day if not for three bogeys on the final five holes. She'll look to build off her first-round success into round two.

"Linnea had a very good round going, then missed a few putts coming down the stretch," said Farr-Kaye. "But she handles the pressure of this tournament like a seasoned player."

ASU will tee off at 9:10 a.m. PT alongside No. 20 Oregon off the first tee on Tuesday. You can follow live stats here on Golfstat.com.
