TUCSON, Ariz.—The Arizona State beach volleyball team (9-10) dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 7 Arizona (14-3) on Thursday at the Arizona Sand Volleyball Courts.
With a loss that was closer than the final score indicated, the Wildcats take half of the Territorial Cup Series ® point for beach volleyball. ASU still holds a 7.5 to 6 point advantage in the 2015-16 race.
The lone win of the day for the Sand Devils came from the No. 4s, with Jourdan Parnell and Bethany Wedepohl sweeping the Wildcat duo of Mia Mason and Kalei Mau, 21-13, 25-23.
The No. 1s duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette and the No. 3s duo of Madison Berridge and Mia Rivera both dropped a pair of hard-fought, three-set matches, earning wins in the opening sets of each.
Up next, the Sand Devils return to the friendly confines of their home courts at the PERA Club, hosting San Diego State and Grossmont College on Saturday. The matches are slated for an 8:30 a.m. PT and 1 p.m. PT start, respectively.
